What a wonderful visit to this remarkable place, through your eyes! You can imagine how we would react to such a collection! Makes our collection of collections look meager! I would love to see the miniature town along the river, with the train and inhabitants. What a creative, imaginative mind. And, money helps!
You would have loved it as much as I did! The collection was so large that it was hard to get photos - I couldn’t get pictures of some of the nicest things. But it felt organized - everything was displayed well. Just like your house!
I’ve never heard of this place or this person! Thanks for introducing me. I love the bit about him dressing up in costume for visitors. That sounds so Victorian but the photograph also reminds me of 1920s illustrators who worked from photos sometimes, like Jessie Willcox Smith.
I’m tempted to ask, “why did he collect all this stuff?” But the better response is probably, “why not?”
Thank you Victoria! I make him sound like a hoarder, which I guess he was to an extent…but I think he was just really a man who appreciated fine craftsmanship!
It's such a long time since I've been to Snowshill. Your photos are marvellous, and I am determined to get there again this summer. Thank you for a lovely post.
Interesting learning about someone and someplace new!

Thank you, Sarah! I wish I were walking through the gardens right now! (I wish it was summer right now, too...)
