I love this post, and as you know I'm an Oxford girl, and I hardly know Cambridge, or Fenland Poly, as we referred to it (when Poly, or Polytechnic, was one step down from a University and generally despised). But I now see Victorian Cambridge through Macmillan eyes, and I'm sure I will be there again soon!
So interesting how distance lends enchantment, Jodi. I could produce a long list of things I admire about Chicago, LA and many other American cities I fell in love with as an Englishman abroad
So interesting Jodi, you really bring the place to life - and I am mightily relieved that England left you with the impressions of friendly smiles and the beauty of the countryside (and old cities). Your writing makes me look at familiar things through fresh eyes, & want to travel more myself! Loved contributing to your 'pocket-sized' guide.
It’s easy to love a city when you’re visiting - you can just do all of the fun stuff and then leave. But I really did think Cambridge was a treasure. I hope you grow to love it!
Graham Chapman, John Cleese and Eric Idle of Monty Python fame were all Cambridge graduates, and they first cut their performing teeth there.
I was amazed by the list of comedians and actors who went to Cambridge!
I think it continued...Emma Thompson and Hugh Laurie were my generation, then Olivia Colman and David Mitchell. Are they still churning them out?

Hahaha that's funny, I've never heard that moniker for Cambridge before (but then I was at Cambridge so I wouldn't would I!)
I had to Google Fenland - I don't think we use the word "fens" in the US!
I'm glad you agree about the stupendousness of King's College Chapel! I guess you didn't get to hear any choirs in August though, too bad :/
I loved it - and so wished I would have been able to hear a choir!
We sneaked in once with friends last year and heard a rehearsal till we got kicked out. My friend's son was a King's Chorister...so special
Ooh - the studio at Charleston! Absolutely gorgeous... ❤️
(Love Cambridge too!)
Also sharing this one with my daughter-in-law!
This is great, Jodi. Like the Oxford piece, you create so much atmosphere from history, architecture, and landscape.
Loved this Jodi!

You should! I lived in Chicago for 15 years and absolutely adored it. I feel like it's a misunderstood city, that gets a bad rap.

This honestly made me tear up a bit. I live in Cambridge but struggle to love it, it’s nice to see it through your eyes.
